Tents and Canopies

Tents

A structure, enclosure, umbrella structure or shelter, with or without side walls or drops, constructed of fabric or pliable material supported in any manner except by air or the contents it protects.

Canopies

A structure, or architectural projection of rigid construction, over which a covering is attached that provides weather protection, identity or decoration, and may be structurally independent or supported by attachment to a building on one end and by not less than one stanchion on the outer end.

TEMPORARY

Is a period of less than 180 days. A permit is required for tents over 200 s.f. and canopies over 400 s.f.

Temporary Special Event Structure: Any temporary ground-supported structure, platform, stage, stage scaffolding or rigging, canopy, tower supporting audio or visual effects equipment or similar structures not regulated within the scope of the International Building Code.

For vacant occupancies, deduct twenty-five dollars from the fee schedule. Vacant occupancies shall contain no storage and be unoccupied at time of inspection to qualify for reduction.

The hourly rate of sixty dollars per hour, charged in thirty-minute increments, will be applied if the fee schedule amounts do not cover the time spent inspecting at the minimum rate, up to a maximum charge of two hundred fifty dollars.

Events that last one to five days in length will be charged the five hours or more rate. Any events that last longer than five days will be charged for additional time per table, or two hundred fifty dollars per day.

Name:Where a business site has more than one building or one accessory structure on the business premises, each additional building or facility will be assessed an additional fee based on its occupancy type.

Fire and life safety inspection fees are assessed on an average time spent per type of occupancy, including travel, office, inspection, and one reinspection if needed. Minimum fee, one hour.

Occupancy groups shall be as defined in Chapter 2, Section 202 of the International Fire Code.
