The deputy fire chief or the highest-ranking assistant fire chief available shall assume the duties of the fire chief and serve as acting fire chief in the event of a concurrent absence of the fire chief and any previously designated other designee(s) of the fire chief, and during such instances the deputy fire chief or the highest-ranking assistant fire chief available shall have all powers and authorities of the fire chief. In the event a concurrent absence of the fire chief, the deputy fire chief, all assistant fire chiefs, and any previously designated other designee(s) of the fire chief, the highest-ranking full-time fire officer available shall assume the duties of the fire chief and serve as acting fire chief, and shall have all powers and authorities of the fire chief; and all other fire department personnel shall adjust and follow the chain of command accordingly.
